From work of art to symbol of peace
The Non-Violence sculpture by Swedish master artist Carl Fredrik Reuterswärd is made of bronze and cast exclusively in the "Cire Perdue" technique at the world renowned Fonderia Mariani in Northern Italy, according the strict specifications of the artist.

The artist created "non-violence" as a tribute to John Lennon, after the musician's death, December 8, 1980.

In 1988, the sculpture was placed at the United Nations, a gift from the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. As part of the artist's work, the sculpture had several temporary placements during momentous events in history, including Berlin during the fall of the wall, and Moscow during the peaceful transformation of Russia.

In 1993 the artist initiated the Non-Violence Project. The Non- Violence Foundation works to inspire, motivate and engage young people in a worldwide movement to radically reduce violence. The NVP promotes and assists the communication and interaction of young people locally and internationally. This network promotes the power of collective youth action and implementation of innovations.

Non-Violence," Carl Fredrik Reuterswärd has not only endowed the United Nations with a cherished work of art; he has enriched the consciousness of humanity with a powerful symbol. It is a symbol that encapsulates, in a few simple curves, the greatest prayer of man: that which asks not for victory, but for peace.
