Mountain Dew
The rumours are true. Mountain Dew was born way back in the hills of Tennessee in the 1940s. The name Mountain Dew was first trademarked by two brothers, Barney and Ally Hartman, who ran a bottling plant in Knoxville. The Hartman's Mountain Dew, however, was a lemon-lime drink used as a mixer with whiskey.
The days of Hillbilly and Outhouse advertising have vanished, replaced with advertisements aimed at Dew's true new market, young, extreme sport lovers!
The Brand has now become interactive; allowing consumers to select the next new flavour. From DEWmocracy.com, online voters selected from three choices: Supernova - a strawberry-melon flavour, Revolution - a berry flavour, and Voltage - a raspberry-citrus flavour. On 17th August 2008, Voltage was announced as the winning flavour. It was released on 29th December of that year.
The Latest DEWmocracy campaign for 2011 is now in action! The two candidate flavours for the new diet drinks are Diet Voltage and Diet Supanova.
You can become part of this exciting licensing programme based on the underground extreme sports market.
